Can you promote in r/weddingphotography?
This is the home of the wedding photographer community on Reddit and the place for wedding photographers, second photographers, assistants, and those aspiring to be wedding photographers. This is a discussion based community and the place to share experiences, business insight, creative ideas about our work, and more.
The short answer
If you are a founder/vendor reply helpfully and transparently in regular discussion threads or the designated weekly/ stickied threads (or ask to use the directory/boards); avoid standalone promo posts and keep any company mention brief and secondary to helpful content.
What works here
- Participate in discussion and answer photographer questions on-topic
- Post vendor/couple questions only in the weekly 'ask a wedding photographer' thread
- Use stickied 'Preset/Workshop/Mentoring' thread for related requests
- Add a portfolio link via approved user flair or the official directory/boards
- Host AMAs when arranged/approved
What gets posts removed
- Posting blatant self-promotion or standalone product/portfolio threads
- Soliciting customers, lead-generation, or advertising in normal posts
- Posting copyrighted presets/workshop materials
- Identifying or doxxing anonymous users
Where this comes from
View the current official rules on RedditNo blatant self-promotion
Rules and sidebar explicitly prohibit blatant self-promotion and standalone promotional posts, so direct advertising is not allowed.
Designated official threads for non-photographer questions
Questions from couples/vendors must be posted only in the weekly 'ask a wedding photographer' threads, so vendor outreach should use those threads rather than new posts.
Stickied thread for presets/workshops
Requests about presets/workshops/mentoring must go in a specific stickied thread, limiting promotional outreach about such products.
Directory and flair for permitted links
Sidebar provides an official directory and flair mechanism for linking websites/portfolios, indicating limited allowed promotion via those channels.
No copyrighted material sharing
Sharing/trading copyrighted content like presets or workshop materials is prohibited, which constrains promotional content that includes such material.
