Can you promote in r/snl?

Live from New York — it’s /r/SNL! A home for real Saturday Night Live fans — past, present, and future. Discuss sketches, hosts, musical guests, cast eras, writers, deep cuts, and the long weird history of the show. Criticism is welcome…bad-faith hate-posting is not.

The short answer

Engage as a regular community member first, provide on-topic, non-promotional value, and if you mention your product or company do so briefly and transparently without links unless the community or mods allow them.

What works here

  • On-topic discussion about SNL (sketches, cast, episodes)
  • Meaningful participation before promoting
  • Occasional, clearly disclosed mentions when directly relevant

What gets posts removed

  • Direct solicitation, advertising, or heavy linking to a product/company
  • Posting promotional content without prior community contribution
  • Low-effort or off-topic posts framed as promotion

Where this comes from

No spam or self-promotion rule

The rules state self-promotion or promotional content without meaningful participation may be removed, so outright advertising is disallowed.

On-topic requirement

Posts must be directly related to SNL, so any founder reply should be clearly relevant to the show's content or community discussion.

Community tone expectations

The sub expects thoughtful, civil contributions and may remove low-effort content—promotional replies should therefore add real value and respect civility rules.
