Can you promote in r/sideprojects?

A community to share and discuss side projects.

The short answer

Post a detailed, value-first writeup (problem, tech, resources), disclose your role, engage in the community, avoid DMs/links as the only call-to-action and don't repost unchanged content.

What works here

  • Showcase a project with detailed context (problem, tech, resources)
  • Share GitHub links/blog posts as supporting resources
  • Request feedback in a constructive, community-focused way

What gets posts removed

  • Blatant advertisements or repeated identical promotions
  • Funnelling readers to DMs for more info
  • Posting affiliate links or astroturfing without disclosure
  • Posting without substantive details

Project detail requirement

Project posts must include problem description, technologies, and resources so posts must be substantive and useful, not just promotional.

No spam/self-promotion

Community disallows blatant advertisements, repeat postings, and affiliate links, so promotional posts must be limited and valuable.

No funnelling

Posts cannot be designed to push people to DM for more info; value should be contained in the post.

Transparency required

Astroturfing is banned and you must be transparent about your relationship to a project.
