Can you promote in r/instagram?

The un-official (and unaffiliated) subreddit for Instagram.com - Learn tips and tricks, ask questions and get feedback on your account. Come join our great community of over 900,000 users!

The short answer

Answer helpfully in-thread, disclose your affiliation if relevant, avoid promotional language and direct sales links, and use the weekly Introduction/Friday thread or ask mods before posting product/offer information.

What works here

  • Answer questions and give tips about Instagram.
  • Share photos and request feedback (use allowed post types).
  • Participate regularly and build rapport before mentioning a product.

What gets posts removed

  • Posting direct product promotions, sales posts, or requests for followers.
  • Linking to your account or product outside the designated weekly thread without mod approval.
  • Offering paid services, selling followers/likes, or posting referral links.

Where this comes from

View the current official rules on Reddit

No self-promotion / no selling

Rules explicitly ban self-promotion, selling services, growth methods, and links to sites that sell likes/followers.

No asking for follows / follow trains

Automoderator removes 'follow me' type threads; use weekly Introduction thread instead.

Allowed Instagram discussion and feedback

Public description and sidebar invite Instagram-related discussions, tips, and sharing pictures.

Designated thread for direct account links

Sidebar/submit text says do not submit links to your account directly; use the weekly Introduction/Friday thread.

Ban on surveys/petitions and certain solicitations

Rules ban petitions and surveys and prohibit messaging mods directly; be careful with outreach and data collection.
