Can you promote in r/hinduism?
Hinduism is also referred to as the Sanātana Dharma (Devanāgarī: सनातन धर्म meaning "eternal dharma"). It is the oldest living religion in the world. Hinduism is a religion as well as a "way of life", and anyone sincerely following that way of life can consider themselves to be a Hindū. What this religion and way of life consists of is a broader topic. Please see our Wiki & FAQs for more info.
The short answer
Engage as a regular participant, provide helpful, substantive comments first, disclose affiliation if mentioning your product, and avoid direct solicitations or link-only posts.
What works here
- Answering questions with helpful, substantive content
- Occasional mention of your project if highly relevant and transparent
- Posting links only with a meaningful (>50 char) explanatory comment
- Being a regular contributor before sharing promotional material
What gets posts removed
- Posting direct advertisements, solicitations, or link-only promotions
- Repeating promotional posts or excessive self-promotion
- Posting content not directly related to Hinduism or low-effort content
- Posting political/controversial articles or content that may bring sub into disrepute
Where this comes from
View the current official rules on RedditNo spam / self-promotion rule
The rules explicitly ban spam, self-promotion, or excessive promotion and allow mods to remove such posts and ban repeat offenders.
Leniency for regular contributors
Moderators may be lenient if the poster is a regular contributor, indicating promotion can be tolerated only after prior participation.
Require meaningful context for links
All image/link/video posts must include a meaningful comment (>50 characters) or they will be removed automatically, so link-only promotion is disallowed.
Quality & relevance requirement
Low-quality content or posts not directly related to Hinduism are disallowed, so product mentions must be clearly relevant and substantive.
