Can you promote in r/52book?

A subreddit for the participants of the 52 Book Challenge (one book per week for a year) to discuss their progress and discoveries. (Yes, you may set a different NUMBER goal for your challenge. Many do!)

The short answer

Participate as a community member (weekly threads or personal progress posts), answer individual requests in comments with helpful context, and avoid creating recommendation/advertising posts or broad solicitations.

What works here

  • Replying in weekly stickied discussion threads with personal progress or tips
  • Suggesting a book in a comment to an individual user when clearly relevant
  • Joining discussions about the challenge or problems meeting goals

What gets posts removed

  • Posting standalone book recommendation threads
  • Posting book haul/TBR posts
  • Making posts whose primary purpose is promotion, solicitation, or lead-gen

Where this comes from

View the current official rules on Reddit

No recommendation threads

Rule 7 explicitly bans book recommendation threads; suggests using r/suggestmeabook instead — this limits any promotional/recommendation-style post.

No book haul/TBR posts

Rule 5 forbids book haul/TBR threads and redirects to r/bookhaul — discourages promotional lists of books.

Allowed in comments when relevant

Sidebar says you may suggest a book in comments to someone if relevant — permits targeted, contextual suggestions rather than broad promotion.

Focus on personal challenge posts

Rule 1 and FAQs require posts be chiefly about the reading challenge and weekly stickied posts are the main discussion venue — favor community participation over vendor posts.

Moderation to keep front page clear

Sidebar notes moderators remove posts more appropriate for aggregated threads to keep the front page clear, implying strict removal of off-topic promotional posts.
